Biography
Brett Cribb is a qualified and experienced Financial Planner and Executive Share Scheme strategist who helps executives in mining and resources, health, bio tech, pharmaceuticals, technology and construction to explore their financial options so they may implement a bespoke financial plan that will enable them to enjoy what matters most, without reliance upon ongoing employment or working in their own business.
Further, Brett is uniquely qualified to provide financial planning advice for high-earning mining and resources professionals because:
- he is a qualified financial planner with more than 20 years’ experience; and
- his previous career as a mining engineer working for Mount Isa Mines (now Glencore) for over a decade, has provided first hand insights into the lifestyle of mining and resources industry professionals and the complex, and often difficult to manage, financial structures they require.
Brett’s clients describe him as someone they trust to manage their financial planning and investments and an essential ingredient in coordinating their financial needs, particularly if they reside outside Australia where they may be subject to vastly different tax laws.
They also credit his regular and thorough review service with providing a discipline that keeps them on track for achieving the goals that he has helped them to articulate. This is all part of Brett’s ‘Making it Happen’ commitment to assisting clients achieve their financial goals.
He is a thorough, dedicated professional who enjoys the enormous personal satisfaction that comes from helping clients achieve their financial and lifestyle goals. For Brett, it’s all about creating freedom. That is, providing his clients with the opportunity to make financial and lifestyle choices which are not reliant on ongoing employment.
As a financial adviser, Brett is able to list many examples of giving advice that has helped clients to restructure their financial affairs which has resulted in significantly better lifestyle outcomes. In one instance, Brett assisted a mining industry couple who had no financial resources at the time of their first meeting to accumulate additional savings of over $400,000 in just four years.
Brett regularly works with ‘Big 4’ accounting firms to assist clients to coordinate what are truly ‘global’ financial plans.
He is experienced with Listed ASX investments and Self Managed Super Funds and is a specialist in Executive Remuneration Packages particularly, Executive Share Schemes (ESS) for high-level professionals.
Brett understands the complexities of Executive Share Schemes and provides financial planning advice that capitalises their available advantages. By way of example, Brett’s advice has facilitated an additional $750,000 in wealth for one of his mining industry clients.
Brett works closely with clients to coordinate long term but flexible financial plans that are tailored specifically to individual needs. Unlike institutional financial planners, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Brett works with each client to coordinate a range of essential elements that may include establishing or updating Wills, implementing Trusts and Estate Planning strategies and organising or reviewing personal insurances.
He maintains close contact with the mining and resources industry fraternities to remain abreast of industry changes and developments. He has been a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy for 25 years and has gathered thousands of LinkedIn connections in locations that extend from Yellowknife to Dubai. During his active mining industry service he has enjoyed many successes. From the very beginning he displayed the qualities of a dedicated and capable leader. At just 28 years of age Brett was promoted to Underground Manager, responsible for over 300 employees. Brett also co-founded Resources Unearthed and Executive Strategies, information hubs that provide business owners, professionals and executives, access to qualified advice and support.
Brett credits much of his success to working alongside strong leaders and mentors who provided a supportive and collaborative team environment. It is this model that Brett continues to embrace in his own financial services business, providing strong and proactive leadership, delivered in his unassuming and quietly determined manner, to assist all those around him to achieve.
Personally
To describe Brett’s life as busy is utterly inadequate. As you’ve read here, he is a thorough and dedicated professional, which is matched by his commitment to his family and community. Brett’s personal mantra is ‘Making it Happen’ and the ‘it’ includes achieving professional goals for clients as well as family and community projects.
Brett has been a member of Rotary for 16 years and a Past President of two Rotary Clubs, and is currently Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Brisbane Mid City.
A keen mountain biker, he regularly blends his love of the sport with community fundraising. By participating in ‘Cycle Epic’ a gruelling 87km trail ride, Brett was able to raise over $120,000 for Starving Kids and Motivational Media charities by partnering with BHP Billiton, who matched donor contributions.
Not surprisingly, Brett has been recognised for his contribution to community service and leadership, receiving the very prestigious Queen’s Scout Award, and from Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellowship.
Brett also loves his rugby. He is an open competition referee for the QRRA in Brisbane.
Importantly for Brett, he manages to balance all this with family life and has two children attending university. It’s a momentous juggling act but with Brett’s typical determination and discipline, it’s one he successfully manages.
